Funeral Frequently Asked Questions

Cremation Frequently Asked Questions

Q.

What is the least expensive burial?

A.

A simple, yet dignified, graveside service is the least expensive funeral at $1,690.00 - $2,540.00.*

Q.

What is included in a graveside service?

A.

The transportation from a local hospital, a minimum cloth covered casket, professional and administrative fees for arranging services and hearse transportation to the cemetery. There is no embalming required and no use of funeral home facilities for viewing or services.

Q.

If I wanted a visitation or viewing at the funeral home with a service held in the funeral home or at a local church, what would be the least expensive funeral?

A.

The least expensive "Traditional Funeral" which includes embalming, preparation for viewing and use of the funeral home facilities is $4,135.00.*

Q.

You gave me a total price for a complete service. Do you have an itemized list of charges for services and caskets?

A.

Yes. We have two itemized lists available. One known as a GPL (General Price List) and the second known as CPL (Casket Price List). Chambers offers a complete funeral service including only the necessary service charges and casket at one low price.

Q.

Can I make a better comparison of cost if I itemize funeral prices?

A.

Not always. Although funeral homes are required to have an itemized price listing, service charges may be grouped or categorized differently. The consumer may become confused over the variety of services and caskets from one funeral to another. In order to make a comparison of cost for the type of service you desire, you will need one total price. At Chambers, we give you the bottom line with the guarantee that any service not used in our complete funeral price will be deducted. You only pay for the services included in our low price.

Q.

Are there any other costs involved?

A.

There could be, for example: If death occurs at a residence or nursing home, the requirement for immediate removal and extra personnel would necessitate an additional charge of $50.00.* Removals between the hours of 5 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. will require an additional charge of $100.00.*

There is another possible charge involved in securing the death certificate. Normally, the certificate is signed by the doctor and left at the place of death. If the physician is not available, the certificate must be taken to the office or residence for signature. This service would require an additional charge of $95.00.*

Q. Do extra charges often occur?
A.

No. It is not always necessary to immediately make the removal, the doctor normally leaves the signed death certificate at the place from which the deceased will be removed and the hospital has facilities to hold the deceased for 12 hours. You will not be charged additional service fees for the removal, securing the certificate or storage facilities unless necessary or required.

Q.

What other expenses should I be aware of that may be in addition to the complete funeral price?

A.

You may have additional costs for newspaper notices, certified copies of the death certificate, clergy offering and flowers. The cemetery charges for opening and closing the grave will also be additional, even if the cemetery property is paid for.

Q.

Can I make arrangements in advance for myself or a loved one?

A.

Indeed. We encourage pre-arrangements to insure that your wishes are honored. Pre-arranging also alleviates the strain of making decisions at an emotionally difficult time. During the course of our consultation, we will record for our confidential files the statistical information required for the death certificate and your preferences for the type of casket and services you desire.

Q.

Can I pay for the funeral I desire in advance and what are the options?

A.

If payment is made in full, the funeral price is frozen and will not change regardless of any further price increase. Your payment is placed in a trust fund and is redeemable without question should your plans change. You may also pay by installments, however, the price does not freeze until the payments equal the current price for the services arranged.
